The story behind Luna

Luna wasn’t born in a tech company boardroom or university research lab. It was built in the trenches by people who lived the daily reality of running managed payroll businesses with systems that just weren’t designed for the job.

Our founders were owners of a managed payroll business, living the daily reality of juggling multiple systems that never talked to each other.

Every day, they faced the same problem: their payroll software processed payrolls perfectly, but nothing helped them actually run their bureau or deliver the client service they wanted to provide. They watched accountants use slick practice management systems while payroll bureaus had to piece together spreadsheets, emails, and workarounds just to track where jobs were and get invoices out.

They searched everywhere for a solution. Nothing existed. So they built their own bespoke system that worked perfectly for their specific setup.

A moment of clarity

Fast forward to 2025. The managed payroll world hasn’t changed much. It’s still fragmented. Supposed solutions still only do part of the job. Talented professionals still spend too much time coordinating systems instead of serving clients.

That’s when our founders realised their solution could help every bureau, accountant and payroll provider. They decided to build Luna as a complete ecosystem (Lunaverse) that works with any payroll software. Built by people who know exactly what it’s like to run a bureau because they’ve done it themselves.
